Low-gain Electronics is owned and operated by Logan Erickson
Personal Philosophy:
Logan’s mission is to help preserve and carry forward the legacy of Serge Tcherepnin and the philosophy behind the instruments that defined Serge Modular Music Systems and later Sound Transform Systems. His motivation is not rooted in business but in a deep commitment to preservation, education, and the global synthesizer community.
As a steward of this small corner of synthesizer history and a lifelong student of modular synthesis, Logan is committed to helping ensure this important chapter of synthesizer history remains accessible, understood, and appreciated by future generations. By safeguarding historical documentation, technical knowledge, and surviving instruments, he hopes to support musicians, builders, engineers, tinkerers, and sound designers while helping preserve a legacy that continues to inspire new generations.
This commitment extends beyond preservation. Through DIY PCBs, assembled instruments, repairs and restorations of vintage systems, educational resources, and original module designs, Logan encourages curiosity, exploration, and a deeper understanding of modular synthesis.
Inspired by Serge’s emphasis on flexibility, experimentation, and programmable instruments, Logan designs modules that reward creative patching rather than prescribing a single workflow. Every instrument is intended to be more than a collection of functions. It is a building block designed to inspire discovery, where both capability and limitation become part of the creative process. By embracing the strengths and constraints of an instrument, musicians are encouraged to experiment, develop their own unique approach to sound, and uncover possibilities that might otherwise remain hidden.
Preserve the past. Share the knowledge. Inspire exploration.
”Synthesizers sound better with bananas!”
Company Mission:
Low-gain Electronics designs, builds, restores, and supports patch programmable modular synthesizers with a deep respect for their history and a passion for thoughtful innovation. Through original Low-gain Electronics designs, faithful recreations of classic Serge Modular Music Systems and Sound Transform Systems instruments, DIY PCBs, assembled products, repairs, restorations, historical research, and educational resources, we strive to help make 4U modular synthesis more accessible, inspiring, and enduring for musicians, builders, and sound designers worldwide.
Driven by curiosity, craftsmanship, and a lifelong desire to understand how instruments shape the creative process, Low-gain Electronics creates instruments and resources that encourage exploration, reward experimentation, and help musicians develop their own unique creative voice.
