4U Modular Shallow Boats (LW compatible)

The new shallow boats are here! Now 2.25” deep instead of 3”. Available with rack ear end caps, single boat desktop ends or dual boat end caps! Getting into 4U Modular shouldn’t be confusing or financially difficult! Our 4U Modular aluminum boats are offered as Passive or Powered. Powered boats supply up to 1A per rail, capable of powering two to three (in total) boats running analog based modules*.

Boats can have power distributed from one boat to another internally to simply power multiple boats off of one external 24Vdc power brick (wallwart).
Wooden desktop cheeks will be made available very soon for dual, triple and quad boat configurations!
These are 4U Modular Format / LW Format compatible boats. Not Compatible w/ RS, STS or Buchla format modules

Keep in mind, the shallow boats are 2.25” deep and will not suppose “stooge bracket” based modules that mount the PCB’s perpendicular to the panel. Those modules are
typically 3” deep and our regular boat is recommended for that. Parallel PCB mounting to panel style modules should fit just fine in these boats.


Dual Boat setups include dual end cheeks.

Boats are tapped for M3 screws so M3x6mm or M3x8mm (for use w/ nylon washers) screws are needed (not included). Befaco Knurlies M3 work great!
Don’t forget your module power cables!

Active Options:
Active Rack Boat - Includes Rack ears + internal power supply (+/-12V @ 1000mA ) + passive power distribution board (turn key, comes w/ external wallwart)
Active Desktop Boat - Includes internal power supply (+/-12V @ 1000mA ) + passive power distribution board (turn key, comes w/ external wallwart)

Passive Options:
Passive Rack Boat - Includes rack ears + assembled passive power distribution board
Passive Desktop Boat - Includes assembled passive power distribution board + Desktop cheeks

Dual Boat Desktop: Includes one passive and one active boat w/ dual boat desktop cheeks and Power supply. Typically shipped w/o boats connected with cheeks so a Phillips screwdriver is needed for final assembly.

Active Boats can power up to two passive boats (1 active + 2 passive) of analog modules (digital modules tend to draw more current)

** 4U Modular is a term used for the format most commonly known as “Serge Format” or “Loudest Warning Format”. Out of respect for the ever growing format, 4U Modular is the easiest way to refer to it. More Specifically it refers to the panel height and mounting hole style. 4U Modular will patch up just fine with other 4U "Serge" formats such as "Random Source", but it will not mount in RS boats or Buchla Boats (or power off Buchla power for that matter). An info page about this will be added to the website soon to make this a lot more easy to understand.
