The Voice of Reason II is a complete 4U modular synthesizer system designed around the principles of patch programmable synthesis. Developed from years of designing, building, and working with Serge-inspired instruments, it brings together a carefully chosen set of modules that complement one another and provide a broad range of synthesis techniques in a single, cohesive system.

Rather than assembling a collection of individual modules, the Voice of Reason II was designed as a complete instrument. It provides the core functions needed for sound generation, wave shaping, filtering, modulation, random voltage generation, signal processing, and stereo mixing while remaining open-ended enough to encourage exploration and experimentation. The system is equally suited to traditional subtractive synthesis, complex modulation, generative patching, percussion, and experimental sound design.

Whether you're entering the world of 4U modular synthesis or expanding an existing system, the Voice of Reason II offers a well-balanced foundation without limiting where your patches can go.

The system includes:

  • Dual Oscillators – Two precision voltage-controlled oscillators, each featuring five simultaneous waveform outputs, linear and exponential FM, voltage-controlled pulse width modulation, hard sync, and operation from low-frequency modulation into the audio range.

  • Wave Multipliers (LGE113) – Wave folding, rectification, and nonlinear waveform shaping for creating harmonically rich timbres from simple waveforms.

  • Dual Processor V3 (LGE012 V3) – Two utility processors for attenuation, inversion, voltage offset, mixing, and general signal conditioning for both audio and control voltages.

  • Variable Q Filter (LGE112) – A voltage-controlled multimode filter with low-pass, band-pass, high-pass, and notch outputs, capable of everything from subtle tone shaping to self-oscillation.

  • Dual Transient Generator (LGE114B) – Two independent function generators with voltage-controlled Rise, Fall, and Shape. Useful as envelopes, LFOs, slew generators, oscillators, trigger delays, envelope followers, and much more.

  • Smooth/Stepped Generator with Random Source (LGE092) – White and pink noise generation combined with smooth and stepped random voltages, sample & hold, and fluctuating control voltages.

  • AM/RM/Comparator (LGE026) – Amplitude modulation, ring modulation, and comparator functions for both audio processing and control voltage generation.

  • Stereo Mixer (LGE142) – A four-channel stereo mixer with level, pan, polarity, and gain controls, auxiliary buses, and both banana and 1/4" outputs for mixing audio or control voltages.
